Ten students from St. Thomas College, Mt. Lavinia are presently in Germany on a three-week study tour organized by Mr. Manfred Moeller, Teacher and Coordinating Director of Gymnasium Isernhagen. The Gymnasium Isernhagen, a high school in Hannover, has been engaging in an annual student exchange program with St. Thomas College in Mount Lavinia and Ladies College in Colombo since 1995.

The new change creates hope for Germany further strengthening its relationship with Sri Lanka," stated Norbert Kopp, District Mayor of Steglitz-Zehlendorf of Berlin at the 67th Independence Day celebration of Sri Lanka organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka at the town hall of the district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf of Berlin attended by over 300 Sri Lankans and Germans. Kopp also congratulated the Sri Lankan community assembled in the town hall to its togetherness, which was visible at the event.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Germany, Karunatilaka Amunugama, met the Parliamentarians Jürgen Klimke of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) and Niels Annen of the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) recently at the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag).

BMWi identified Sri Lanka as target market for this year's informative event and for the German Companies who are interested in new markets or business partners in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan communities living in Germany joined with their brethren Hindus as one Sri Lankan community to celebrate the Deepavali festival at Sri Ganesha temple in Berlin. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Germany together with the Sri Lankan Associations in Germany organized the Deepavali celebration and a special Pooja.
