Sri Lanka Embassy in Germany celebrates 67th Independence Day of Sri Lanka
"The election of the new President and the peaceful and democratic transition of power provides a surge of hope for strengthening the democracy in Sri Lanka. Several measures taken by the new President and the Government to bring the country back on the democratic path demonstrate the positive changes taking place in Sri Lanka. The new change creates hope for Germany further strengthening its relationship with Sri Lanka," stated Norbert Kopp, District Mayor of Steglitz-Zehlendorf of Berlin at the 67th Independence Day celebration of Sri Lanka organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka at the town hall of the district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf of Berlin attended by over 300 Sri Lankans and Germans. Kopp also congratulated the Sri Lankan community assembled in the town hall to its togetherness, which was visible at the event.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Germany, Karunatilaka Amunugama, met the Parliamentarians Jürgen Klimke of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) and Niels Annen of the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) recently at the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag).

The Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) with the co-sponsorship of Sri Lanka Embassy in Berlin organized a successful seminar with the participation of over 40 potential investors, bankers and logistic operators in Berlin on 28th November, 2014. BMWi identified Sri Lanka as target market for this year's informative event and for the German Companies who are interested in new markets or business partners in Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Amunugama met the six Hon. Consuls of Sri Lanka for Germany at his official residence to discuss plans to be adapted for future coordination.
The Sri Lankan communities living in Germany joined with their brethren Hindus as one Sri Lankan community to celebrate the Deepavali festival at Sri Ganesha temple in Berlin. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Germany together with the Sri Lankan Associations in Germany organized the Deepavali celebration and a special Pooja.
Ambassador Karunatilaka Amunugama held a meeting with the State Secretary Markus Ederer of the German Federal Foreign Office at his office.
