Klimke and Annen are among the 17 Parliamentarians appointed for the German-South Asia Parliamentary Group, which looks after the German interests in Sri Lanka (along with Afghanisatan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan).

Since 2002, Jürgen Klimke has been a member of the Bundestag, where he is the spokesperson of the Committee of Economic Cooperation and Development and member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs.

Niels Annen is a foreign policy leader in the SPD and has been the Spokesman on Foreign Affairs of the SPD Parliamentary Group since 2014. He is also a permanent member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and a substitute member of the Committee on Economics and Energy.

During the discussions, Ambassador Amunugama highlighted the socio-political, economic and trade developments in Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the defeat of LTTE terrorism in 2009. He also conveyed Sri Lanka's great interest in expanding relations with Germany in the fields of trade and investment.

While appreciating the initiatives taken by the Ambassador in enhancing bilateral relations, both Parliamentarians agreed to support Sri Lanka in its future endeavours.
