The 49th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council will take place from 28 February to 1 April, 2022 in Geneva. During the Session the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights will present a written update on Sri Lanka to the Council and there will be an Interactive Dialogue on Sri Lanka on 3 March, 2022.

The proposed Bill to amend the present Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) which the Government of Sri Lanka intends to introduce in Parliament and upon it being passed into law, would be a salutary piece of legislation that would amend the present Prevention of Terrorism Act, after almost 43 years since it was enacted and would be the most progressive step that would give persons subject to the said law, tangible protection towards securing, advancing and protecting their fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
Sri Lanka recently reopened its borders to tourists. Visitors have the World Heritage Site and tea gardens that cover much of the island almost to themselves. This also applies to the railway, which runs on one of the most beautiful routes in the world.
