Due to the prevailing situation in the country, the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide services to the public only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with effect from June 30, 2022 until July 10, 2022. The same working arrangements will also apply to the Regional Consular offices in Jaffna, Matara, Kandy, Trincomalee and Kurunagela will provide services on these days.

Sri Lanka has regularly shared our progress and challenges in an open exchange with this Council and other organs of the United Nations. It is in this spirit of transparency, candour and openness that I make this address to the current session of the Council.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris will travel to Singapore for a bilateral visit from 8-9 June 2022, on the invitation of his counterpart, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore Vivian Balakrishnan. During his visit, Minister Peiris will hold bilateral discussions with Foreign Minister Balakrishnan and meetings with the Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, Minister for Law and Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam and other senior officials.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. G. L. Peiris briefed the Colombo based Diplomatic corps on 2 June, 2022 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his address, Foreign Minister Prof. Peiris outlined the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka and the challenges encountered by the Government which included pressing issues such as shortage of fuel, gas, essential pharmaceutical products and power cuts.

The new Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aruni Wijewardane assumed duties at the Foreign Ministry on 23 May, 2022. She was appointed as the Secretary with effect from 20 May, 2022.

Ms. Aruni Wijewardane has been appointed as Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with effect from 20th May 2022. She will assume duties at the Ministry on 23rd May 2022.
