Press Release - Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya focuses on strengthening vocational education and economic linkages during visit to Germany

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya undertook a visit to Hamburg, Germany from 27-30 March 2025 and focussed on strengthening vocational education and economic linkages between the two countries. Hamburg is Germany’s second largest city and a major European Port city with a history of trade linkages with Asia.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Prime Minister Amarasuriya were the Guests of Honour at the 102nd East Asia friendship dinner, the annual gathering of the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV), the largest German association for the promotion of German-Asian business relationships. In her address as Guest of Honour in front of an audience of 300 dignitaries including German President Steinmeier, the Mayor of Hamburg and high-ranking representatives from business and politics from across Germany, Prime Minister Amarasuriya highlighted the significant potential for strengthening the economic ties between Sri Lanka and Germany. She reiterated that despite facing a challenging economic crisis in 2022, Sri Lanka’s economy has regained its normalcy to a great extent within a relatively short period.

Travellers can also apply for 30 Days & 90 days Tourist or Business Visa at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs relocates its Consular Division to new premises at “Suhurupaya”, Battaramulla

Suhurupaya 2IThe Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be relocated to the new premises at the 16th floor of “Suhurupaya”, Sri Subhuthipura Road, Battaramulla with effect from 02 May 2024. All consular services will be provided to the public at the new office premises during regular office hours from Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 4.15 pm.

Sri Lanka co-chairs the 15th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum on Non–Proliferation and Disarmament

ARFProlif2024Sri Lanka, Thailand and USA co-chaired the 15th Inter-Sessional Meeting (ISM) of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) on Non –Proliferation and Disarmament (NPD), held from 29 April – 01 May 2024 in Hawaii, USA. The meeting followed Sri Lanka’s hosting of the 14th ARF Inter-Sessional Meeting on Non Proliferation and Disarmament in Colombo last year.
