The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, visited Sri Lanka from 14-16 June 2016, on an invitation extended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera. This is the first visit of a Foreign Minister of Turkey to Sri Lanka, and will therefore mark the beginning of forgoing stronger relations between the two countries.
A MOU for cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries on diplomatic training, exchange of information and documentation was signed during the visit.
The Foreign Minister of Turkey called on H.E. President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The Minister also called on the Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya and met members of the Sri Lanka-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Association.
