Two thousand former rehabilitated LTTE cadres were recruited to the Civil Security Department (CSD) from the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts. The new recruits recently gathered at the CSD Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu joint command headquarters in response to the CSD's call for ex-combatants to join its ranks. "These former LTTE combatants, now fully rehabilitated and reintegrated into society have shown a keen interest in joining the CSD,"CSD Director General Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris told the Daily News.
The recruitment drive, a concept of "Tharunyata Hetak" president and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, was organized by the Director-General of the Civil Defense Department Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, under the direction of Defense and Urban Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. CSD Director General, Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, presented letters of appointments and uniforms to the 2,000 new recruits at a ceremony.
Meanwhile, the CSD has also received over 500 new applications from rehabilitated former LTTE cadres and other citizens from the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts on the same day. The Director General also presented cash and school equipment to children of the area, who had passed the Year Five scholarship examination on the occasion.
