Ambassador Unambuwe meets Naturland representatives

NaturalandAmbassador of Sri Lanka to Germany, HE Manori Unambuwe held successful discussions with Mr. Steffen Reese, Managing Director of Naturland, Mr. Marco Schlueter, Management Strategy and International Affairs, and Ms. Sandra Meyr, Head of International Department, on collaboration with Sri Lanka on its transition to organic agriculture, on 20th July at the Naturland Head Office in Munich.

Naturland expressed its delight in the decision by the government of Sri Lanka to transition to 100% organic agriculture and pledged to support in areas of organic certification, quality assurance and standards. Assistance to introduce podcasts for field officers and farmers on use of technology and maintaining quality standards throughout the process, were also discussed.

Naturland is one of the major international associations for organic agriculture with 65,000 farmers in 58 countries, producing according to the Naturland standards. World’s first ever conversion to organic agriculture of tea gardens in Sri Lanka and India in the 1980s was the prelude to company’s successful work on an international scale. They currently have about 25 members in Sri Lanka, farming according to Naturland’s organic standards.
