The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Germany, Upali Sarrath Kongahage, signed the Golden Book of Leipzig yesterday.
Ambassador Upali Sarrath Kongahage visited Leipzig on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of his country with Germany.
The 51-year old journalist and lawyer worked, among other posts, at Lakehouse Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. In 1984 he was a founding member of the Sri Lanka Mahayana party whose leadership he took over in 1994. In 2010 he stood as a candidate in the Sri Lankan presidential elections. In September 2011, he was was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic Sri Lanka in Berlin. In 2012, he was elected as the new president of the Diplomatic Council.
