The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Germany, Karunatilaka Amunugama, made a courtesy visit to Hon. Peter Friedrich, Minister for the Federal Council, Europe and International Affairs of Baden-Württemberg, and held extensive talks on the strengthening of the bilateral cooperation and furthering investment in Sri Lanka. The ambassador also met Hon. Wilfried Klenk, President of the Land parliament of Baden-Württemberg, and attended a reception hosted by the President of the Land parliament. The Ambassador also met the Lord Mayor of Stuttgart Fritz Kuhn.
The Land of Baden-Württemberg in the Southwest of Germany is one of the economic powerhouses of Germany as well as Europe with a broad range of manufacturing businesses including the traditional car manufacturers of Daimler-Benz and Porsche, mechanics giant Bosch and the IT-company SAP.
During his visit in Baden-Württemberg, a dinner was hosted by Norbert H. Quack, the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Baden-Württemberg to which several high-ranking business personalities from Stuttgart and the surrounding areas were invited. The Ambassador briefed the business community of the potential opportunities in Sri Lanka for investment and business. The Ambassador also visited the University of Heidelberg and had meetings with the rector of the university, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel, and with scholars of the South Asia Institute of the University of Heidelberg.
The Ambassador also held a meeting with the representatives of Sri Lankan community in Stuttgart where a large number of Sri Lankans are living. The Ambassador briefed them on the efforts of the government for the development and the national reconciliation and requested them to make their valuable contribution to the reconciliation efforts, capacity-building, development and welfare of the brethren who suffered by the conflict.
