Media Release - Foreign Minister stresses importance of collaboration at University of Colombo Annual Research Symposium 2021
Foreign Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris was the Special Guest at the inauguration of the Annual Research Symposium 2021, at the University of Colombo on November 23. The symposium brings together distinguished academics representing a number of disciplines, and highlights the theme for 2021 – Impartial Research through an Interdisciplinary Approach. The event was also attended by the Acting High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Vinod K. Jacob and notable academics from the Faculty of the university.
The UN Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) for Political, Peace building and Peace Operations, Khaled Khiari, who is currently undertaking a visit to Sri Lanka, called on Foreign Minister Prof G.L. Peiris, on Tuesday, 23 November 2021 at the Foreign Ministry. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister discussed matters related to Sri Lanka’s post-COVID recovery including the economic challenges in the aftermath of the pandemic and the progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Sri Lanka.
Please be informed that due to a breakdown of the Electronic Document Attestation System (e-DAS) in the Consular Affairs Division of the Foreign Ministry, attestation services during the past week were disrupted resulting in long delays in providing services. In addition, the Branch Attestation System at the Regional Consular Offices and Sri Lanka Missions overseas are also affected. The Foreign Ministry regrets the inconvenience caused to the public in this regard.

The Government of Japan with the concurrence of the Government of Sri Lanka has appointed Mr. Hideaki Mizukoshi as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Sri Lanka in Succession of H.E. Akira Sugiyama. He has presented credentials to H.E. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka on 16 November 2021 at 10.30 a.m. at President’s House, Colombo 01.
The Government of the Kingdom of Thailand with the concurrence of the Government of Sri Lanka has appointed Mr. Poj Harnpol as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Sri Lanka in Succession of H.E. (Ms.) Chulamanee Chartsuwan. He has presented credentials to H.E. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka on 16 November 2021 at 10.30 a.m. at President’s House, Colombo 01.
