Parallel zu den Feiern zum 64. Unabhängigkeitstag in Sri Lanka wurde am 4. Februar der srilankische Unabhängigkeitstag in der srilankischen Botschaft in Berlin gefeiert. Der stellvertretende Bezirksbürgermeister von Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Herr Michael Karnetzki nahm an dieser Veranstaltung, die von dem srilankischen Botschafter,, S.E. Rechtsanwalt Sarrath Kongahage geleitet wurde, als Ehrengast teil. Eine große Anzahl von Sri Lankern mit Wohnsitz in Deutschland sowie deutschen Gästen und Mitarbeitern der Botschaft nahmen ebenfalls an der Veranstaltung teil. Eine Botschaft von Unterstützern der LTTE, die vor dem Botschaftsgebäude stattfinden und die Veranstaltung zum Unabhängigkeitstag stören sollte, konnte erfolgreich durch die Zusammenarbeit der Botschaft mit Mitgliedern der srilankischen Vereine vor Ort gestoppt werden.

Aus Anlass des 3. Jahrestags der Gründung der Bodhi Vihara in Freising ist eine Briefmarke herausgegeben worden, die mit Inschriften auf Deutsch, Thai und Chinesisch an die Geschichte des jungen Tempels erinnert. Auf der Briefmarke ist das Siegel der Bodhi Vihara zu sehen, das im Zentrum das Dhamma-Rad zeigt. Zur Linken sind ein Bhikkhu sowie ein Hirsch aus dem Park in Sarnath zu sehen, wo Lord Buddha seine erste Predigt in Indien hielt. Auf der rechten Seite ist ein Laie zu sehen, der der Dhamma lauscht. An seiner Seite befindet sich das Wappen der Stadt Freising, das ebenfalls im Siegel des gegenwärtigen Papstes Benedikt XVI zu finden ist. Die Briefmarken sind am Postschalter erhältlich.

Ambassador Sarrath Kongahage represented Sri Lanka in the panel discussion on ‘Rural Development – a key political issue in South Asia' organised by the Department of Culture and History of India and Tibet and Asia-Africa Institute of the University of Hamburg on 19 th November 2011. The panel discussion was organised as the principle programme of the ‘Ninth South Asia Day' by the University of Hamburg.

At the very outset I would like to state that it does not gives me a great pleasure at this moment of time as having had to bear with a decision of the organizers of this gathering to completely ignore my request to screen a documentary produce by Government of Sri Lanka back to back in answer to the Channel 04 Documentary which rebut graphically all allegations contained therein. Within the limited time allocated to me, I am unable to counter all the allegations contained in this Channel 04 documentary which I consider a blatant canard. Instead I would hereby table my entire analysis with regard to this documentary made by the so-called proxy of the LTTE diaspora unfortunately called “The Channel 04” which is hell-bent on promoting not human rights in Sri Lanka but on the contrary desperately attempting to reverse the Reconciliation and reintegration process now successfully taking shape, back in Sri Lanka. I shall now table my analysis for your considered perusal countering scene by scene and frame by frame the fictitious and diabolical lies contained in the said documentary.
