Rights of entrepreneurs to engage in their businesses freely will be strictly ensured – President

0111 1140x927President Maithripala Sirisena says he would highly ensure the rights of entrepreneurs to engage in their businesses freely, under the laws and regulations of the country.

Current government ended the era in which every entrepreneur from high level businessmen to the ambulant seller in the street bow-down to political influence, he said.

The president made these remarks at the concluding ceremony of the Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2015, organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce held at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo today (Aug. 05)

Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2015, which commenced 16 years ago, is the flagship event of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and focuses on discussing the most critical issues of the economy.

The theme of this year’s summit was ‘Towards Exports of US $ 50 billion’.

President pointed out it is not suitable for politicians to dictate businessmen or their businesses. He stated that the people brought a change to this country on January 08 expecting a transformation in every field.

“The current government ensured the right for the judges to judge the cases freely and the government servants and the police to do their duties freely. It also ensured the freedom for the all the people to engage in their activities freely and happily, he added.

It is my commitment to take forward the expectations of the people who elected me as the President of this country, giving a majority of votes in the history on January 08, the President said. He expressed his confidence about the election of a proper government to strengthen that journey in forthcoming General Election.

The President also stated that the politicians are responsible to do their work with transparency and honesty. “They should manage their power not to destroy the country, but for the development and the betterment of the people.

President Sirisena pointed out that assistance from most countries have been extended to Sri Lanka by now due to the neutral foreign policy of the current government. He said Sri Lanka has gained comprehensive opportunities in the international market through the agreements with them. He also requested the entrepreneurs to get the fullest advantage of that.

Minister of finance Ravi Karunanayake, President of Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce Samantha Ranatunga, Vice-President Rajendra Thyagaraja were among those participated at this occasion.
